“The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it...” - Psalm 24:1
MPC’s Earth Care Team leads our efforts to care for creation in the church, the surrounding community, and the world. Earth Care Team volunteers perform hands-on service such as installing energy efficient lighting in our buildings, picking up litter along Shoal Creek, and monitoring water chemistry and doing bacteriological testing at Alabama Water Watch sites in the Cahaba River watershed.
The Earth Care Team also leads our congregation in fulfilling the goals of a Presbyterian Church (USA) Earth Care Congregation. Earth Care Congregations are congregations who have committed to the Earth Care Pledge and accomplished specific actions toward caring for God’s earth in four categories: worship, education, facilities, and outreach. The church became a certified Earth Care Congregation in 2011, and its efforts to care for creation continue to be led by the congregation's Earth Care Team.
